Step 2. Install Signal Messaging on the Ubuntu system.
- Install Signal Messaging from the official repository.
Let’s add the official repository using the command:
wget -O- https://updates.signal.org/desktop/apt/keys.asc | sudo apt-key add - echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://updates.signal.org/desktop/apt xenial main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list
Now that you have added the repository, update the cache and install the Signal desktop application:
sudo apt update sudo apt install signal-desktop
- Install Signal Messaging using Snap.
Signal application is available as a snap package for Linux systems. The Ubuntu 20.04 systems have default Snapd install and recommended for packages installation:
sudo snap install signal-desktop
Step 3. Accessing Signal Desktop App on Ubuntu.
Once installed Signal application on your Ubuntu desktop system. Search for Signal application under Activities. Note: To use the Signal desktop app, Signal must first be installed on your phone.
